About the job
As Technical Officer in our Fleet Department, you will be responsible for the technical performance and maintenance of our fleet of vessels. You will ensure compliance with international regulations and company standards while optimizing vessel reliability and efficiency.
You will work closely with vessel crews and shore-based departments (Procurement, Projects, Crewing) to maintain high technical and operational standards. This role is crucial in ensuring that Koole’s fleet operates safely, cost-effectively, and with minimal downtime.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the technical condition of assigned vessels and ensure safe, efficient operations
- Ensure compliance with ISM, Class, Flag State, and company standards
- Monitor and manage maintenance schedules, dry-dock planning, and repair activities
- Maintain and update the MARAD Planned Maintenance System (PMS)
- Supervise and coordinate both planned and unplanned repairs
- Support vessel crews in the execution of maintenance and repair tasks
- Review and optimize maintenance strategies to improve vessel performance
- Prepare and manage technical budgets for assigned vessels
- Ensure cost-effective procurement of spare parts, maintenance, and repair solutions
- Review and approve technical expenditures in line with company policies
Skills
- Strong knowledge of vessel engineering, maintenance, and repair
- Familiarity with ISM Code, Class, and Flag State requirements
- Experience with Planned Maintenance Systems (preferably MARAD)
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Hands-on, problem-solving mindset
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to balance cost control with operational performance
What you bring
- A degree in Marine Engineering or a related technical discipline
- 3–5 years of relevant shore-based or superintendent experience (fleet/technical management)
- Seagoing experience as an Engineer Officer is a strong advantage
- Fluency in English (spoken and written); Dutch is an asset
- Willingness to travel internationally for vessel visits, dry-docks, and projects
