KOOLE Contractors cleans the elecrticity grids foundations in Nieuw-Vennep In order to provide sufficient capacity for electricity transport in the region in the coming years, the 380 kv high-voltage connection in the Randstad will be expanded over the next few years, commissioned by TenneT. KOOLE Contractors use his Vacu-Press to contribute to the realization of Lot 1 of the North-South Ring between the Southern Ringvaart and Vijfhuizen. Van Hattum and Blankevoort realizes the concrete work for the foundations of the high-voltage masts and the Vacu-Press is used to suck sludge after the pouring of underwater concrete.

KOOLE Contractors have secured storage space in Amsterdam On the 29st of may this year a big fire has occurred in the western port area of Amsterdam. The fire started around 19:30 at a waste disposal company on the Kajuitweg. The fire burned out under supervision of the Fire Brigade and prevented any additional damage to the surrounding area. KOOLE secured the burned storage space from collapsing. KOOLE demolished the burned building and sorted the materials and discharged them.

The scope of work consists of remediation works, removal of process installations by means of reverse engineering, relocation of installations and demolition of buildings, electrotechnical installations and piping bridges. The plant is located on the industrial estate of a large chemical company, housing several live plants. In the vicinity of the plant buildings and installations that are part of the dismantling scope, several buildings, installations and piping bridges are located which are in operation throughout the demolition project. To prevent that any of the operations is interrupted by our activities, utmost care attention is paid to working methodologies, safety aspects and phasing of our activities. Up till now, KOOLE Contractors has relocated a substantial number of process installations to other production locations in Sweden, Belgium, Spain and France.

Dismanteling of chimneys at Harculo Zwolle At ten o’clock on Saturday 18 March the two chimneys with a height of 112 metres, of the former power station on the IJsselcentraleweg in Zwolle, were brought down according to plan using payload. After a signal was given twice with a horn, and the towers were lying down on the ground within ten seconds. The dismantling of these chimneys is an important part of the total demolition of the Harculo Plant.

600 cars removed from car carrier In October a fire broke out on board the in Antwerp moored car carrier Silver Sky. It took three days before the fire was extinguished. At the time of the outbreak of the fire, the ship was loaded with used cars that were designated for Africa. The cars suffered irreparable damage by the fire. About 600 burned cars are removed by KOOLE Contractors from the 182 meter long car carrier. The cars were taken from the ship using wheel loaders and lined up on the dock. The vehicles with fire damage are treated as hazardous materials, and further processed that meets specific safety requirements.

KOOLE MAMMOET Salvage refloats barge in United Arab Emirates On February 16 has KOOLE MAMMOET Salvage completed a salvage operation of a on a breakwater stranded barge at Mina Saqr Port in the United Arab Emirates. During the inspection, significant damage was detected on starboard side. Due to the damage the barge lost its buoyancy on starboard side. The refloating plan comprised of putting the damaged tanks under air pressure. After regaining buoyancy the barge was removed from the breakwater with the help of a tugboat and transported to Dubai Drydocks. This 70 nautical miles (130 km) trip took 20 hours.

Removal of pipelines and floating tank roofs Eurotank Amsterdam Eurotank Amsterdam contracted KOOLE Contractors for the removal of pipelines and “floating” tank roofs. Before the start of the decommissioning operations the pipes were drained and flushed to ensure that there was no oil residue left in the pipes. The pipes were cut in small pieces with the "cold cutting" method. With this method there is no blow torch used. This reduces the risk of fire and explosions when cutting oil pipelines. Tank roofs Besides removing the pipelines, KOOLE also removed three floating tank roofs. These roofs float on the liquid in the tank to prevent the liquids to vaporize and to reduce the risk of air pollution. The metal roofs of the empty tanks were cut into pieces with the help of a crawler crane equipped with a hydraulic shear. All materials were cut into small pieces and disposed in containers.

Dismantling a 60 meter high chimney in Vlissingen KOOLE Contractors was contracted to dismantle a chimney in Vlissingen. With the help of the spidercrane is the 60 meter high chimney dismantled to a rest height of 28 meters. The spidercrane dismantled the concrete shaft systematically, the debris is disposed inwards. This method provides an alternative as opposed to toppling a chimney, which affects the environment. The spidercrane is an unmanned and remote controlled excavator with four hydraulic feet, that is positioned on top of the chimney. The spidercrane is equipped with a series of radio transmitters and HD cameras. With the help of remote controls and LED monitors can the crane operator accurately control the excavator. The cabin is at a safe distance on the ground, in which the operator can concentrate on his work.

KOOLE Contractors starts dismantling project in Sweden Borealis has contracted KOOLE Contractors for the removal of an ethylene cracker in Stenungsund, Sweden. KOOLE has recently mobilized the necessary equipment and personnel to Sweden and has started the dismantling. The Austrian company Borealis is a manufacturer of polyolefins, chemicals and fertilizers, with offices and production locations throughout Europe, including Sweden. An ethylene cracker uses a high temperature to break apart molecules, for further processing in the petrochemical industry. Dismantling Furnace E is part of a multi-year renovation plan for multiple ‘crackers’. The project comprises of the partial dismantling of the cracker, the corresponding pipelines and refractory material lining. The installation contains asbestos, which will also be removed by KOOLE under strict protocol. Approximately 380 tons of steel and 250 tons of refractory stone material will be disposed during the operation. The dismantling has started in January 2017 and it will take approximately eight weeks to complete. After handover to the client a piping and mechanical contractor will start rebuilding the furnace. KOOLE has an extensive track record in dismantling industrial installations. However this project has specific characteristics. For example, the cold winter in Sweden requires the necessary precautions, such as measures for frozen roads and a snow-covered work site.

KOOLE Contractors receives authorization for asbestos removal in Sweden From now on KOOLE Contractors is qualified to remove asbestos in Sweden. KOOLE has received authorization, because it meets the specific safety regulations to remove asbestos. Besides Sweden KOOLE was already qualified to remove asbestos in Belgium and the Netherlands. KOOLE Contractors is currently working on a decommissioning project in Stenungsund, Sweden, in which asbestos must be removed.

Dismantling potato processor in Belgium In Leuze-en-Hainaut, Belgium, KOOLE Contractors has removed a production building of a potato processor. This project comprised of the dismantling of the entire production line, including conveyor belts, screeners, wash drums and pipelines. After dismantling the production line, the entire warehouse was being removed. The removal was done by two crawler cranes. The various materials were separated at source and disposed. The installation did not contain any asbestos or other environmentally harmful substances. Within five weeks the entire installation and warehouse was removed.

Removing a recuperator in Zelzate For a steel manufacturing corporation in Zelzate, Belgium, KOOLE Contractors has removed a recuperator. Recuperators are used in the production of steel in order to recover waste heat, so it’s not lost. The first phase of this project was to cut loose and remove the ventilation channels and fan, then the recuperator of furnace 3 was dismantled. The large components were transported to the lay-down area using two crawler cranes. The different materials (stone and metal) were separated at the source and disposed. The installation did not contain any asbestos or other environmentally harmful substances.

Removal of thirteen oil tanks in Rotterdam At the moment KOOLE Contractors is removing thirteen oil tanks in the port of Rotterdam. The tanks have to be removed because they have become obsolete. The height of the tanks varies from 5 to 14 meters high. Before systematically removing the tanks, the insulation and aluminum siding is removed and separated at the source. Some of the tanks contain a small amount of asbestos and waste product. This will also be remediated by KOOLE. Remediation of these hazardous substances requires a safe and meticulous approach. For example, asbestos is hermetically packed, separated and taken off site. It is not the first time that KOOLE removes a tank farm. KOOLE has previously removed a tank farm in Feluy, Belgium.

KOOLE Contractors removes sludge for construction N31 Environmental

KOOLE Contractors removes sludge for construction N31 For the construction of the new N31 in Harlingen, KOOLE Contractors has removed sludge. The sludge was lying on top of the underwater concrete, which was cleaned in order to make room for the foundation of the road. With the help of the Vacupress vacuum truck an area of nearly 550 m2 was cleaned. The Vacupress vacuum truck can remove liquids and small materials, such as gravel, sand and granulate. The N31 is the direct connection between Amsterdam and Leeuwarden via the Afsluitdijk and Harlingen. This road is recreated in order to improve the accessibility of Friesland. Decommissioning chemical plant in Geel, Belgium KOOLE has started the dismantling of a chemical plant on the INEOS site in Geel, Belgium. A truck-loading dock, parts of a production building, some silo construction units and smaller production installations will be removed. Highlight of the work was the stepwise deconstruction of a 76 m high flare. Also the asbestos containing materials will be remediated by KOOLE. The decommissioning started in mid-August 2016 and will be completed by the end of December 2016.

The spidercrane is a remote controlled excavator with four hydraulic feet, that is positioned on top of very high constructions like chimneys. The spidercrane is equipped with a series of radio transmitters and HD cameras, so the crane driver can accurately control the spidercrane with the help of remote controls and LED monitors. While the spidercrane is doing his job at a 400 feet height, the crane driver is safely on the ground controlling the operation. KOOLE Contractors removed burned part of warehouse De Meern Environmental

KOOLE Contractors removed burned part of warehouse De Meern In June 2016 a raging fire damaged a big part of a warehouse in De Meern. Hundreds of oranges were stored inside the warehouse when the fire broke out. There were no dangerous substances released during the fire. KOOLE was contracted to secure and clear the site. After the fire department extinguished the fire, KOOLE deployed heavy equipment to help clean up the damage, the oranges and water. Because of our removal technique, the surrounding buildings that didn’t take any fire damage could also be remained intact during the demolition activities. The project was completed several weeks after the fire.

After the grounding of the vessel, an unknown amount of containers was scattered in an area of 60 km² with several containers stranded on the beach. KOOLE was contracted in 2015 to remove the complete vessel, survey the area of 60 km² and remove all detected containers and debris.
