KOOLE Contractors prepares the spidercrane for operation The proprietary spidercrane is going to be hoisted on the roof of the power plant, here a hole will be drilled to a size of about 20 by 20 meters. An attempt to refloat the vessel failed and as a result the ship broke in two pieces. The local weather conditions deteriorated the condition of the ship considerably. The “MV Sirena” ran aground at a challenging spot in the National Marine Park. The area is not only known for its beautiful coral reefs but especially for the extreme weather conditions and waves. After 60 days, the vessel was successfully removed by KOOLE MAMMOET Salvage without damaging the surrounding reefs.

The fire started around 19:30 at a waste disposal company on the Kajuitweg. The fire burned out under supervision of the Fire Brigade and prevented any additional damage to the surrounding area. Dismanteling of chimneys at Harculo Zwolle At ten o’clock on Saturday 18 March the two chimneys with a height of 112 metres, of the former power station on the IJsselcentraleweg in Zwolle, were brought down according to plan using payload. After a signal was given twice with a horn, and the towers were lying down on the ground within ten seconds. The dismantling of these chimneys is an important part of the total demolition of the Harculo Plant.

600 cars removed from car carrier In October a fire broke out on board the in Antwerp moored car carrier Silver Sky. It took three days before the fire was extinguished. At the time of the outbreak of the fire, the ship was loaded with used cars that were designated for Africa. The cars suffered irreparable damage by the fire. About 600 burned cars are removed by KOOLE Contractors from the 182 meter long car carrier. The cars were taken from the ship using wheel loaders and lined up on the dock. The vehicles with fire damage are treated as hazardous materials, and further processed that meets specific safety requirements.

KOOLE MAMMOET Salvage refloats barge in United Arab Emirates On February 16 has KOOLE MAMMOET Salvage completed a salvage operation of a on a breakwater stranded barge at Mina Saqr Port in the United Arab Emirates. During the inspection, significant damage was detected on starboard side. Due to the damage the barge lost its buoyancy on starboard side. The refloating plan comprised of putting the damaged tanks under air pressure. After regaining buoyancy the barge was removed from the breakwater with the help of a tugboat and transported to Dubai Drydocks. This 70 nautical miles (130 km) trip took 20 hours.

Before the start of the decommissioning operations the pipes were drained and flushed to ensure that there was no oil residue left in the pipes. The pipes were cut in small pieces with the "cold cutting" method. With this method there is no blow torch used. This reduces the risk of fire and explosions when cutting oil pipelines. Tank roofs Besides removing the pipelines, KOOLE also removed three floating tank roofs. These roofs float on the liquid in the tank to prevent the liquids to vaporize and to reduce the risk of air pollution. The metal roofs of the empty tanks were cut into pieces with the help of a crawler crane equipped with a hydraulic shear. All materials were cut into small pieces and disposed in containers.

With the help of the spidercrane is the 60 meter high chimney dismantled to a rest height of 28 meters. The spidercrane dismantled the concrete shaft systematically, the debris is disposed inwards. This method provides an alternative as opposed to toppling a chimney, which affects the environment. The spidercrane is an unmanned and remote controlled excavator with four hydraulic feet, that is positioned on top of the chimney. The spidercrane is equipped with a series of radio transmitters and HD cameras. With the help of remote controls and LED monitors can the crane operator accurately control the excavator. The cabin is at a safe distance on the ground, in which the operator can concentrate on his work.

KOOLE Contractors starts dismantling project in Sweden Borealis has contracted KOOLE Contractors for the removal of an ethylene cracker in Stenungsund, Sweden. KOOLE has recently mobilized the necessary equipment and personnel to Sweden and has started the dismantling. The Austrian company Borealis is a manufacturer of polyolefins, chemicals and fertilizers, with offices and production locations throughout Europe, including Sweden. An ethylene cracker uses a high temperature to break apart molecules, for further processing in the petrochemical industry. Dismantling Furnace E is part of a multi-year renovation plan for multiple ‘crackers’. The project comprises of the partial dismantling of the cracker, the corresponding pipelines and refractory material lining. The installation contains asbestos, which will also be removed by KOOLE under strict protocol. Approximately 380 tons of steel and 250 tons of refractory stone material will be disposed during the operation. The dismantling has started in January 2017 and it will take approximately eight weeks to complete. After handover to the client a piping and mechanical contractor will start rebuilding the furnace. KOOLE has an extensive track record in dismantling industrial installations. However this project has specific characteristics. For example, the cold winter in Sweden requires the necessary precautions, such as measures for frozen roads and a snow-covered work site.
